Noting that all patients should be treated in a non-discriminatory manner by medical professionals, we supported legislation which will prohibit the denial of appropriate medical care to individuals based on various irrelevant characteristics.

We strongly opposed a bill which would have banned terms like “racial guilt” in the classroom, barred the use of school books that have a "viewpoint," and required school staff to address students by “the pronouns associated with their biological gender.”

At a meeting of a state legislative commission designed to examine the impact of the criminalization of sex work, we testified in favor of decriminalization of these offenses and provided a number of other policy recommendations on the topic.

For individuals who are transgender or gender non-conforming, the ability to access private and safe bathroom facilities is critical.

We supported legislation that makes a number of changes to the state’s fair housing law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

This bill would require that all newly constructed single-user public bathroom facilities be gender neutral, and thus allow all Rhode Islanders to access bathrooms in a non-stigmatizing manner.
