We expressed concerns about two sections tucked at the end of this lengthy Department of Business Regulation bill which would make numerous revisions to the insurer licensing statute.

School Resource Officer Funding (H 5628, H 6149)

We opposed two pieces of legislation which would have indefinitely extended the reimbursement structure that had previously existed for SROs, incentivizing schools to continue to hire personnel who are not adequately trained in youth mental and behavioral health, such as SROs.

Though bullying is a scourge, a piece of legislation which would have statutorily created an “Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights” drew our opposition over concerns about its breadth.

Streamlined Adoption Processes (H 5226, S 121)

We strongly supported legislation which streamlines the adoption process for children born through assisted reproduction and makes an important step in protecting the diversity of families in Rhode Island – particularly LGBTQ+ families.

Patient Discrimination Protections (H 5428, S 412)

Noting that all patients should be treated in a non-discriminatory manner by medical professionals, we supported legislation which will prohibit the denial of appropriate medical care to individuals based on various irrelevant characteristics.
