Two separate pieces of legislation introduced this session would have addressed different aspects of sex work decriminalization.

This legislation will exempt from open records requests the disclosure of the municipality of residency for a public employee or police officer.

We supported a critical piece of legislation which would have largely eliminated the ability for a K-5 student to be given an out-of-school suspension and strengthened the current reporting requirements for school districts.

Although the version of this bill introduced in 2019 would have provided important and comprehensive protections for parents with disabilities and was strongly supported by the ACLU, a revised version introduced this session raises many concerns.

We supported legislation which, since passed, now provides a critical protection against housing discrimination based on a potential tenant’s source of income, an issue which particularly impacts marginalized communities.

The Federal Election Commission has previously concluded that childcare, if the need for childcare arises as a result of campaign activities, can additionally be a permissible usage of campaign funding; this legislation would formally codify this decision into RI law.

We opposed this bill which would create an “animal abuse registry” similar to the registration requirements already in effect for persons convicted of sex offenses.

This legislation would confront the wealth-based incarceration system by promoting pretrial release of individuals without the requirement of monetary bail.

Critical proposed changes to the state’s Fair Employment Practices Act were introduced in two separate pieces of legislation this year and would make individual employee-supervisors, and not just the company employing them, subject to personal liability for their own acts of discrimination.
