Protections for Healthcare Providers (H 7577, S 2262)

We strongly supported this legislation which would ensure protections for patients and providers of reproductive and gender-affirming health care services against the imposition of criminal or civil liability for providing care to people from states banning these services.

Unrelated Housemate Limitations (H 7382, S 2635)

Current law allows municipalities to limit the maximum number of unrelated persons who can live together in a dwelling, but of no less than three people. We supported this bill which would increase the limit to five.

Ban on “Synthetic Media” in Elections (H 7387A, S 2456)

We urged caution in trying to quickly control the new world of artificial intelligence with this bill that would regulate electoral communications generated by artificial intelligence, and which would allow politicians to seek injunctions against “deceptive” AI-generated communications.

We opposed this legislation which seeks to allow for the use of “noise violation detection systems” in municipalities in Rhode Island, as we do not believe it appropriately addresses the many practical concerns which accompany this type of technology.
