As a state with one of the most protective Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights statutes in the country – imposing numerous barriers to disciplining wayward officers – it is long past time for significant revisions to be made to this law.

We urged enactment of a bill which would provide specific technological privacy protections for students.

Our organization closely watches legislation that could bar otherwise qualified individuals from employment on the basis of a past outdated or irrelevant criminal record.

Regardless of who a vote is for, even if it is for an inevitably losing cause, all voters fundamentally deserve the right for their votes to be counted.

We testified in favor of legislation which would have decriminalized sex work.

In appreciating the legitimate interest in creating a legislative commission to study and provide recommendations on school safety protocols for Rhode Island schools, we urged that this resolution also include a provision that will set an openness standard for that commission.

We opposed legislation which would have imposed harsh financial penalties on use of a number of unregistered vehicles like ATVs and dirt bikes and which incorporated questionable forfeiture protocols.

We urged amendment to this bill which authorizes courts to issue restrictive filing orders to protect victims of domestic violence from abusive litigation.
