“Citizens United” Constitutional Amendment Resolution (H 7768)

We strongly opposed a resolution which calls on our Congressional delegates to support adoption of a federal constitutional amendment designed to overturn the U.S. Supreme Court’s controversial decision in the Citizens United campaign finance case.

Affirmative Defense to Crime of Obscenity (H 7575, S 2429)

We strongly supported this legislation which would protect literature with “educational and governmental” value, as well as materials in a “bona fide school, museum, or public library.”

Workplace Psychological Safety Act (H 8044, S 2473)

While ensuring a healthy workplace is a laudable goal, we opposed a piece of far-reaching and subjective legislation which would impose liability on employers or co-workers who, among other actions, "confuse" a person emotionally.

Ban on “Synthetic Media” in Elections (H 7387A, S 2456)

We were glad to provide support for this legislation which seeks to declare as a matter of state policy the responsibility of government to protect the freedom of libraries and librarians to fulfill their mission without fear of censorship.

Threats Against "Public Officials"

Explicit Digital Images (H 7101, H 8129)

As juvenile and inadvisable as it is to use generative artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit, but fake, digital images, criminalizing the dissemination of such digitally generated content raises numerous First Amendment concerns.
