This letter was sent to the Westerly Code Enforcement Officer regarding the Town's "clearly unconstitutional" zoning ordinance that limits the number of political signs residents can post, and when they can post them. The letter urges the Town to rescind any warnings or citations issued to town residents; cease any further enforcement of this provision; and seek Town Council action in revising the ordinance in order to avoid any future disputes or the necessity of litigation.

These letters were sent from the ACLU of RI and many community partners to urge the Barrington School Committee and Barrington Town Council to reject the proposal to add a second school resource officer to the school district.

This letter urges the Westerly Town Council to reject a proposed amendment to the Town's charter that would require elected officials and volunteers on boards to have an annual criminal background check on record at Town Hall for public access. The letter raises concerns about the legality of such an amendment, as well as privacy and policy concerns.

This testimony submitted to the Rhode Island Board of Elections provides comments and concerns about proposed regulations regarding early voting. Specifically, we advocate the Board to remove language which would extend the current statutory “50-foot electioneering” ban outside polling places on election day to apply to early voting facilities that could significantly adversely impact free speech.
