Training for Police on Individuals with Cognitive and Communication-Related Disabilities (H 5185, S 401)

As a matter of making police interactions for individuals with cognitive and communication-related disabilities safer and respectful of their unique needs, we supported legislation that will require training of police officers in responding to individuals with disabilities.

Minimum Wage Exemption for Individuals with Disabilities (H 7511, S 2242)

In supporting the repeal of a statute which allows for individuals with disabilities to be paid less than minimum wage for their work, we noted the flagrant discriminatory impact of this provision and noted that it could inappropriately limit the economic mobility for individuals with disabilities.

RI Promise Scholarship and Students with Disabilities (H 5605, H 5224A)

We supported this important bill which would ensure that the Rhode Island Promise Program – which provides free tuition to students attending CCRI – appropriately accommodates students with disabilities.

Preservation of Families with Disabilities (H 5394, S 56)

Although the version of this bill introduced in 2019 would have provided important and comprehensive protections for parents with disabilities and was strongly supported by the ACLU, a revised version introduced this session raises many concerns.
