Legal Services for Indigent Tenants (H 6062, H 6129, S 911)

We strongly supported legislation that would have provided legal representation to indigent individuals facing an eviction proceeding. When facing adverse housing actions, asking such individuals to navigate a complex court system without adequate legal support or effective resources stacks the deck against them in almost insurmountable ways. Allowing them access to legal help could be the difference between maintaining housing for a family or kicking them to the street. This legislation died in committee.
