Expansion of "Hazing" Offenses (H 8062, S 2405)

Though hazing is an activity that deserves to be curbed, we opposed a piece of legislation which would expand the scope of responsibility for "hazing" to include student organizations, and which also significantly increases the penalties for this conduct. Specifically, this bill provides that any "person in charge" of student organizations who permits hazing activities or "negligently fails to take reasonable measures" to prevent hazing could face a potential year-long sentence.
