Summary

This legislation would extend the sunset of the "Don't Block the Box" statute which reauthorizes the allowable use of an automated traffic violation detection system. We opposed this legislation based on our longtime opposition to the needless proliferation of surveillance technologies, particularly camera technologies, as a method for enforcing traffic statues. Our organization has noted for years the inefficiency of surveillance systems at curbing the problems they are purportedly designed to address. This legislation passed with floor amendments designed to increase privacy protections for the use of these systems.
