AI Companions (H 7350, S 2195)

We have been watching closely the expansion and impact of emerging AI technology in various parts of life and consistently urge adequate safeguards surrounding its use. As such, we supported legislation that would require AI companion technology to establish additional safety features to address users expressing suicidal ideation, or the potential for physical or financial harm to others.

We did, however, not concerns with the open-ended nature of the term "protocol" and urged caution around any protocol that would require continued monitoring of user conversations or retention of conversation logs.
