Ban on Private Prisons (H 7739, S 2509)

We supported legislation which would have barred private prisons from operating in the state of Rhode Island entirely and limited the ability for carceral facilities in Rhode Island to cooperate with ICE.

This legislation would have importantly ensured that all residents under the age of 19 – regardless of immigration status – would qualify for comprehensive health care through the state’s RIte Track program.

We supported this legislation which would have required the tax administrator to prepare one-time data that shows the amount of taxes paid by individuals and entities that file taxes using an Individual Tax Identification Number rather than a Social Security Number.
