Under this legislation, licensed cannabis sellers would be required to post signs warning that the consumption of marijuana during pregnancy poses a risk to infant development. This bill unintentionally singles out pregnancy -- and only pregnancy -- for these posted warnings. There are a number of potential health risks associated with cannabis use and we feel that it is wrong to reequire signs that focus concerns about its use on this one particular group of consumers. We also worry that these signs send an unintended but dangerous message that the private behavior of pregnant women is everybody's businesss and deserves public scrutiny and condemnation. As such, the ACLU of RI opposed this legislation. This bill died in committee.
