We opposed legislation which would have required that all campus police officers at a public institution of higher education in RI be armed.

Current law in Rhode Island allows each public institution of higher education to independently determine whether arming their campus police is in their best interests or not. Noting the significant danger posed by allowing weapons on school campuses, we opposed this legislation which would have removed this discretion and instead mandated that all campus police officers be armed. Thankfully, this bill died in committee in both the House and the Senate.
