We supported this bill which would prevent landlords from inquiring about the immigration status of their tenants or potential tenants, noting that this legislation is critical for ensuring that families with undocumented members can maintain housing without fear. This bill would also confront issues of racial profiling by restricting the ability for a landlord to stereotype and inquire after a tenant or potential tenant’s immigration status, and would prevent landlords from inappropriately leveraging information about immigration status against their tenants to restrict them from reporting violations or making complaints about conditions at the residence.
