We supported this legislation which codifies the collection of certain demographic data – specifically race, sex, country of origin, and level of education – from individuals entering the custody of the state Department of Corrections. We also urged the bill be amended so that the home address of these individuals be collected for purposes of addressing the issue of prison gerrymandering. While it did not include our suggested amendment, this bill passed and was signed into law.
