We supported a bill which will allow for classified employees to seek nomination or become a candidate for elective state office and require their resignation from employment only if they win the election. Currently, unclassified or non-classified employees may run for office but classified employees are exempt from this ability. Though we noted that we further believe that classified employees shouldn’t be required to resign upon transitioning into office, we emphasized that this legislation would bring more fairness to the present statutory distinctions between the ability for different state employees to run for and hold office. This legislation passed.
