Current law in Rhode Island allows each public institution of higher education to independently determine whether arming their campus police is in their best interests or not. Noting the significant danger posed by allowing weapons on school campuses, we opposed this legislation which would have removed this discretion and instead mandated that all campus police officers be armed. This bill died in committee.
