We supported a bill which would have comprehensively updated Rhode Island’s Access to Public Records Act for the first time in over a decade. Among many other things, these important updates would have reduced the costs for obtaining records, ensured appropriate community access to arrest reports and records of investigations into police misconduct, and required more transparency by agencies in explaining record denials. This legislation died in committee.
