2025 Legislative Session – Disability Rights

As longtime supporters of Rhode Island's medical marijuana program, we believe that the right to use medicinal cannabis is essential for those suffering from serious and debilitating conditions. As such, we supported a bill that would allow terminally ill patients to use medical cannabis in certain health facilities. Allowing terminally ill patients to use cannabis in certain health facilities, we argued, ensures that they receive the care and relief they deserve in their final days, while also respecting their dignity and personal autonomy. We also argued that research has shown the benefits of marijuana in treating and alleviating pain and other symptoms, like nausea and loss of appetite. This legislation died in committee.
