For the second year in a row, the Governor has vetoed an important privacy bill that would restrict the state and municipalities from making use of “radio frequency identification” technology to track students, employees or clients. These electronic chips allow people’s identity and movement to be monitored electronically. While the RFID technology has been employed to track cattle and commerce, the privacy implications of its use on people are unsettling. The Affiliate will be encouraging the legislature to override the Governor’s veto.
