Intelligence Speed Assistance, Super-Speeder Devices (H 8098, S 2942)

We opposed and sought amendments on legislation that would establish as a sentencing requirement for certain speeding and other traffic violations the installation of an "intelligent speed assistance" device. This device would regulate a driver's speed to prevent them from exceeding the posted speed limit. We raised numerous concerns including the cost impact on lower-income individuals, the lack of an emergency override provision, and questions about the data this system generates.
