Update for Members of the Class Action: Morelli v. RIPTA

Attorneys for the lawsuit have informed us that settlement payments are starting to be distributed to approved members of the class.

This class action lawsuit was filed against the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) and UnitedHealthcare New England (UHC) over an August 2021 data breach at RIPTA that compromised the Social Security numbers and other personal and health care information of thousands of individuals, including many with no connection to RIPTA.

Update for members of the class in Morelli v. RIPTA: Attorneys for the lawsuit have informed us that settlement payments are starting to be distributed to approved members of the class. Payments will be distributed in a few different forms — all of which were options that members could choose when becoming members. The payment form options are:

  • Paper Check – mailed to the address provided on application.
  • Direct Deposit – bank account information would have already been provided when applying for class status.
  • Pre-Paid Mastercard – class members who chose this option will receive an email (sample provided below) with directions on how to claim their payment via this method.

Any additional questions or concerns please contact Attorney Peter Wasylyk’s office at 401-831-7730.
