This legislation would have provided a critical protection against housing discrimination based on a potential tenant’s source of income, an issue which particularly impacts marginalized communities. Currently, landlords can deny housing applications simply because the applicant uses income originating from areas such as Social Security, child support payments, or Section 8 vouchers. We supported this bill which would prohibit this harmful practice and ensure that no tenant is denied housing due to the origin of their rent money.
