The General Assembly once again considered a spate of anti-abortion legislation, including legislation prohibiting women who get an insurance plan tax credit from buying a plan that includes any abortion coverage beyond life, rape, and incest – with no exception for women’s health. In March, the ACLU testified before the House Judiciary committee that forcing women to buy an abortion insurance rider effectively blocks women struggling to make ends meet from getting the care they need, requiring women to jump through hoops not required for any other medical procedure, even those opposed by people with deeply held religious beliefs. The bill was not voted on before the end of the session, and died.
