Women have historically been charged more for the same health insurance as men, solely because of their gender, leaving women less able to purchase vital health care coverage. This practice is generally illegal under the Affordable Care Act, but gaps in that Act allow the practice to continue, prompting this ACLU-supported bill which would completely ban such discrimination. With the additional threat of a possible repeal of the ACA by Congress, state action is even more important. Unfortunately, although the legislation passed the Senate, it died in House Corporations Committee.
