A lot of the work we do doesn't result in a lawsuit or other formal measure.
For example, we receive a complaint from a concerned parent of a public school student, and we are able to resolve the issue with a formal letter to the school district. Another example, the RI Board of Elections proposes a new rule or regulation that may violate the U.S. Constitution, then reconsiders upon hearing our testimony on their proposal. Our "behind the scenes" work may not make it on the evening news or into your twitter feed, but these efforts are absolutely critical to protecting the rights of all in the Ocean State.
Testimony submitted to the Rhode Island State Police concerning proposed rules and regulations for the code of conduct for sworn members resulted in an important amendment to the regulations which ensured compliance with body-worn camera regulations and the state's whistleblower protection law.

This letter was sent to Governor McKee and cited "serious legal and policy concerns" and called on the Governor to rescind his notice of intention to kick campers off of the Statehouse grounds.
December 8, 2022 This letter was sent to the superintendents of each school district in RI urging them not to enter into an agreement with their local law enforcement agency to provide body-worn cameras (BWC) to any school resource officers (SRO) in their community’s schools.
November 7, 2022 This letter was sent to the Attorney General's office expressing concerns that the background check process used by the office for school volunteers is patently inconsistent with the relevant state law and inappropriately infringes upon the privacy rights of parents.

This letter was submitted to the Woonsocket City Council and raises numerous concerns about the procedures for removal or impeachment of a mayor that are contained within the Woonsocket municipal charter.
