In April, the ACLU testified before the House Health, Education and Welfare committee in support of legislation clarifying the ability of nurse practitioners and physician assistants to prescribe medication. The Senate Health and Human Services committee heard similar legislation in June. Passage of this legislation would resolve a pending lawsuit by the ACLU over the state’s medical marijuana program, and the Department of Health’s refusal to accept the signatures of registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants as valid.
