In an effort to join with a dozen other states that already have laws to this effect, the Affiliate is introducing legislation this year that will prohibit police departments from instituting quotas, or a set number of tickets, arrests and investigatory stops an officer must meet within a certain timeframe. This legislation was was prompted by the ACLU‘s discovery last year that the Hopkinton police department had implemented a traffic ticket quota requirement for its officers.
