We urged amendment to a bill addressing telematics systems in cars — which track and gather information such as vehicle location and driver behavior — which is then shared with insurance companies, for example, to set car insurance rates. The bill requires a driver to consent to the sharing of such data, but we urged that the legislation be much more specific to ensure that any consent is informed and meaningful. This bill died in committee.
