We opposed legislation which would have expanded the speed camera program in Rhode Island. Currently, speed cameras may only be put in very specific school zones – this bill would have allowed their installation anywhere and would have increased fines and reduced signage informing drivers of the cameras. Noting privacy concerns, as well as the inappropriateness of using traffic cameras as a method of raising revenue, we urged that this bill be rejected. Thankfully, the bill died in committee.
