Despite having recently enacted legislation similar to this bill, this legislation would have increased the penalties for individuals convicted of unnecessary cruelty to an animal and would have placed a life prohibition on that individual owning or possessing an animal for life. We opposed the bill, noting that the amendments could have unreasonable, inappropriate, and unjust consequences on individuals decades after their conviction. The bill thankfully died in committee.
