LETTER: Re: Statute Prohibiting Use of Political Party Names
This is a letter to the RI Attorney General urging him to decline to enforce an existing RI statute which makes it “unlawful for any club or society or association, whether incorporated or not, to include in its name the word ‘republican’ or ‘democrat’ or any designation indicating its affiliation with a political party” without the party’s consent.
Also included below is the RI Attorney General's response indicating that his office would not pursue enforcement of the statute in question.
