REPORT: Girls Just Wanna Darn Socks: RI Public School Support of Gender Stereotyping (March 2015)
Despite progress toward gender equality, gender-exclusive student events continue to perpetuate stereotypes. That’s the finding of this report, based on a survey of 40 elementary schools in 16 school districts. The report states that the schools’ promotion of these parent teacher association (PTA) and parent teacher organization (PTO) activities reinforces outdated stereotypes of gender roles among students.
