We opposed a bill which would have completely removed the statute of limitations that currently exists for alleged tax deficiencies, and allowed tax officials to charge individuals with filing incomplete tax returns decades after the fact. Statutes of limitations play an important role in preventing government overreach and ensuring that individuals can appropriately defend themselves from allegations of civil or criminal misdeeds or mistakes. This bill died in committee.
