While we supported provisions of this bill which would have extended the temporary authority for entities subject to the Open Meetings Act to hold remote meetings in light of the Covid pandemic, we expressed objection to two details. First, the bill would have permanently allowed the URI Board of Trustees to meet remotely, undermining the provisional conditions of the bill. Second, the bill would have allowed for the destruction of any meeting recordings after 200 days, which, we argued, was contrary to basic archival standards. The bill died in committee.
