The legislature approved requiring public schools to educate students about, and respond to incidents of, “dating violence,” but only after the bill was amended at the ACLU’s request. The amendments clarify that school discipline policies addressing such conduct will apply only to incidents occurring on school grounds or at school functions, not private disputes between students. The amendments, offered by Sen. Charles Levesque, represent the latest in a series of Affiliate activities designed to limit school efforts to expand their disciplinary reach to students’ off-campus conduct in a variety of contexts.
