JOB DESCRIPTION: DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

The Rhode Island Affiliate, American Civil Liberties Union is seeking a Development Coordinator. The duties for this position include various fundraising, membership recruitment and development activities; database management; assistance with some of the Affiliate’s communications and educational activities, including website management; and related organizational and administrative tasks. Applicants must be committed to the mission of the ACLU and have strong organizational, communications, administrative and computer skills.

Position Overview and Functions: The Development Coordinator will coordinate fundraising efforts for the organization and, secondarily, assist with some of the organization’s communications programs. Because the organization communicates in a way that garners support for our mission, there is natural overlap between these areas and the skills required.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

      Campaign Coordination. Coordinate the organization’s campaigns to raise annual gifts from supporters, attorneys, and major donors by preparing materials for solicitors and donors; organizing mailings and personal solicitations; and drafting correspondence and reports. 

       Donor Cultivation. Identify, develop and implement strategies for the cultivation of potential major donors to the organization, and for increased planned giving from supporters.

    Reports and Record-Keeping. Maintain confidential membership and fundraising information and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the database information.

     Donor Relations. Acknowledge contributions and assist in providing high-quality service to members, supporters, and potential supporters through communication.

     Public Education. Assist with maintaining and expanding use of the Affiliate web site, and develop and coordinate special education projects and activities.

    Membership. Develop strategies to obtain, cultivate and retain ACLU members, and assist in the maintenance of membership database. *  

  

    Events. Coordinate membership and donor events.   

   Board Work. Assist Executive Director with the development work of the Board of Directors.
