The ACLU of Rhode Island works day in and day out to defend our rights and liberties, but we don’t do it alone. Our staff of just four is able to achieve so much because of the coalition partners, volunteers, advocates, and community groups that work with us to address the complex and often pervasive issues Rhode Islanders face. Each year, at our Annual Meeting Celebration, we honor a select few of these groups or individuals who have stood up for civil liberties and made a difference here in Rhode Island. This year, we were proud to honor homeless rights advocate Megan Smith and the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless as the 2015 Civil Libertarians of the Year.

If you weren’t able to attend our October celebration, tune into “Rights of a Free People” throughout December to watch Ms. Smith and RI Coalition for the Homeless executive director Jim Ryczek discuss their work and accept their awards. Check out the clip above for a preview. (Showtimes)

Tune in to the show in January for the second part of our Annual Meeting Celebration. You’ll hear about ongoing ACLU cases directly from ACLU volunteer attorneys and clients.
