Why are we already looking back at a legislative session that finished just last month? Because there’s still plenty to unpack and discuss when it comes to your civil liberties.

If you follow the ACLU of RI on Twitter or Facebook, you know we worked daily at the State House this year to lobby on bills (both good and bad) ranging from criminal justice, free speech, and privacy to voting rights, open government, and due process. We made great progress supporting anti-discrimination bills protecting children in DCYF custody and veterans, and we help passed legislation ensuring pregnant workers are properly protected. We also worked with allies to stop a number of harmful bills, including a package of overly broad “computer crimes” bills. Despite our work, troubling anti-civil liberties bills did become law and a number of vitally important bills were left on the table when the General Assembly abruptly adjourned late last month.

Tonight, we’ll be joined by fellow advocates to discuss some of these bills and many others as part of our annual Legislative Wrap-Up and Dessert Evening. You'll also be able to enjoy some delicious desserts and coffee from local businesses! Details about the event are below and our Facebook Event page. Hope to see you tonight!

2015 Legislative Wrap-Up and Dessert Evening

An informal, free event to discuss how our civil liberties fared in the 2015 General Assembly session. Listen, ask questions, and learn while enjoying delicious desserts from local businesses. This year, local advocates will share their thoughts on legislation concerning criminal justice, abortion, pregnancy discrimination, the "war on drugs," school discipline, and more.
